October is here and Halloween is just around the corner.
But don’t worry if you’ve got no plans yet for the spookiest date in the calendar. Dig out your creepy costumes and frightening fancy dress and check out these five fiendishly fun things to do in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and the surrounding area.
1. Have fun at a Noodle holiday club
Noodle Performance Arts is running a special two-hour Halloween-themed holiday club on Monday, October 28 at the Lifestyle Centre in Beighton, Sheffield. Running from 9.30am until 11.30am, children aged between three and eight can stay without their parents and take part in spooky games, activities, dances and crafts. Those taking part are encouraged to get dressed up in their scariest Halloween outfit. Tickets are £12 each with a 20 per cent discount for siblings. Book yours here now.
2. Pick a pumpkin at Whirlow Hall Farm
On Halloween itself Whirlow Hall Farm Trust is holding its first ever Monster Parade at the farm. Get your face painted, experiment with slime, watch Room on the Broom in the pop-up cinema and take a closer look at some creepy crawlies between 12pm and 5pm on Thursday, October 31. You can also pick your own pumpkin and transform it into a spooky Jack-o-lantern with the help of the farm’s volunteer carvers. The event will finish with a lantern-lit Monsters Parade around Whirlow Hall Farm. Tickets are £6 for adults, £5 for children and free for under-twos.
3. Take a potions class at the Tropical Butterfly House
Wannabe witches and wizards can take part in a magical trail around the Tropical Butterfly House. Try on the sorting hat to find out which house you belong to, have a go at flying a broomstick and brew up some mysterious concoctions in a potions class at the witches cabin. The Witches and Wizards event will run from 10am to 5pm from Saturday, October 26 to Sunday, November 3. Usual admission fees apply.
4. Meet fairy tale characters at Yorkshire Wildlife Park
Inspired by the frightening fairy tales from the Brothers Grimm, Yorkshire Wildlife Park will be playing host to a whole host of classic characters including the Big Bad Wolf, Rumpelstiltskin and Snow White. From October 26 to 28, you can meet these fairy tale favourites while you wander round looking at the animals. There will also be a live Deadly Bugs show, Halloween craft activities and face painting. Normal admission fees apply.
5. Get slimy while you shop at Meadowhall
This half term Meadowhall is giving you the chance to get gooey at its ghost-busting Slime Factory experience. Children will be asked to don their lab coat and goggles and make their own slime in this 25-minute experience. There are some spooky surprises in store and children will be able to take a pot of their crazy creation home with them. The cost of the session is £4 and places can be booked at various times from Saturday, October 26 Friday, to November 1
